Guilty Gear sequel said to be a total “reconstruction of the franchise”

Arc System Works, a video game developer and publisher that is based in Yokohama, Japan known for games like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, now is making a new untitled Guilty Gear game. Arc System works have released a new teaser trailer on their YouTube account that was premiered on Evo 2019. And on Thursday Daisuke Ishiwateri, Guilty Gear general director shared some information on the developers vision on 2020 Guilty Gear series sequel. That information  strongly suggests that this next series of fighting game will conduct in a huge overhaul for the franchise.

Ishiwatari, Guilty Gear illustrator, creator and BGM, tweeted that the main goal in creating this game is  “to create a game that both new and existing players alike would want to get their hands on”. That leads us to think that the new series of Guilty Gear will be way more understandable for new players who might feel a bit confused and lost with some of te ways that the game system works. Lets hope that the game wont do it in expense of its complexity that the already existing players enjoy so much.

“A complete reconstruction of the franchise (..) a tremendous challenge for Guilty Gear” is what Daisuke Ishiwatari called this upcoming game. Here are the highlights of the game directors statement about Guilty Gear 2020:

“The core concept this time is unlike those of past titles — it is neither “evolution” nor “returning to the roots”; nor is it an addition or subtraction of elements to the existing title. What we’re pursuing is a brand new experience for Guilty Gear.

To achieve that goal, we’ve disassembled the current franchise into fragments and sifted out the piece that make it unique and charismatic, using those pieces to have a complete reconstruction of the franchise.

What we’re undertaking is a full-frontal confrontation with the essence of the Fighting Game genre, a tremendous challenge for Guilty Gear. It is a high-risk move on our part. However, we have an accumulation of the the plentiful resources and experience, a clear vision of our ideals, and the excitement towards a future of a new possibility. Although we do not know what this path awaits us ahead, we as the development team look forward to the future of this never-ending pursuit. In the process of this journey, we hope that we will be able to share the excitement and joy we’ve encountered with all of you.”

While the new Guilty Gear series does not have a release date, platforms or even a title for that mater, here is everything that we know about Guilty Gear 2020 new series so far.
