Luckily Netflix keeps investing in anime genre and the collection of anime movies and series on Netflix keeps growing. Though in July we saw a bit less new releases, this month we have some great Netflix anime titles like Carole & Tuesday, Cannon Busters, Hero Mask: Part II, Kengan Ashura: Part 1, Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac and a great Netflix documentary that focuses on anime phenomenon.
Netflix Anime – Carole & Tuesday
These anime series are from Shinichiro Watanabe the director of Cowboy Bebop, animated science-fiction tv series. Action is happening in the future. Located on a partially terraformed Mars. Main characters of course are two girls Carole and Tuesday. Tuesday Simmons is a wealthy political daughter who runs away from her family to Alba City in hopes of making her dreams real and become a musician. First day in the city and Tuesday meets Carole Stanley another struggling musician. With Tuesday playing her Gibson acoustic guitar and Carole playing a piano both team up and try to make it as musicians together. The first series have already aired in Japan but everyone else will be able to see the series on August 30.
Netflix Anime – Cannon Busters
These anime tv series are based on Cannon Busters, American fantasy comic book series created by LeSean Thomas and released in March 2005. These series are a long time coming since LeSean Thomas started a crowdfunding drive through Kickstarter for the series on 2014.
The story takes place in a technologically advanced wild west type place called Gearbolt. This is a story is about two best friends robot S.A.M. and Prince Kelby. S.A.M. is on a mission to find her missing friend – heir to her Kingdom under siege – Kelby. On this journey S.A.M. is accompanied by Casey Turnbuckle (an abandoned assistant and junk mechanic robot) and Philly the Kid (outlaw, youngest wanted criminal in the western regions). Cannon Busters was released on Netflix on August 15, 2019 and all 12 episodes are available.
Netflix Anime – Kengan Ashura: Part 1
These tv series are based on a Japanese manga series Kengan Ashura that were written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by artist Daromeon. The story follows the main character called Ohma Tokita (Ashura) who enters in a brutal hidden world gladiator bout where corporate disputes are settled. He is hired by Nogi Hideki and fights on his behalf. In these fights the winner takes all but Ohma Tokita is not interested in money his goal is just to fight and win.
Kegan Ashura: Part 1 was released on Netflix on July 31 and the Part 2 is already coming in autumn on October 31, 2019.
A review of Kengan Ashura: Part 1 says: “Epic, violent and innovative, Kengan has some very thrilling demonstrations of martial arts combat displayed with a very unique drawing technique.”
Netflix Anime – Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac
Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac is a Japanese-American anime series that are based on Japanese manga series Saint Seiya (1980’s) by artist are writer Masami Kurumada. And now it has become a Netflix original series directed by Yoshiharu Ashino. The story is about the Bronze Knights who are on a quest to protect the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. The main character is a young teen called Seiya and he is recruited by Alman Kido to become a Bronze Knight. Seiya is also looking for his sister who is missing. Bronze Knights bear extraordinary powers and they must fight Olympian gods. Currently there are 6 episodes available on Netflix.
Netflix Anime – Enter the Anime
This one is a Netflix documentary where Actress Tania Nolan is trying to find the way to explain the phenomenon of anime by interviewing creators of popular Netflix anime series. That includes Shinji Aramaki, Kozo Morishita and Yoko Takahashi. The documentary is available on Netflix since August 5, 2019.
